Voicing Care ケアの声 is a transnational socially engaged art project, with collaborative curatorship, which began in May 2021 and explores and shares the experiences of women in Japan and Europe. Between August and December we organised a series of virtual and bilingual (English and Japanese) events that functioned as a public and safe space for discussion and exchange of experiences, where art, care and motherhood were discussed and where we addressed what socially engaged art is and can be. We sought to investigate and develop, collectively with the participants, feminist approaches to socially engaged art focussing on the concepts of care and recovery.
More than once we appealed for the active participation of the community by sharing their experiences, sensations and points of view, and almost all of these contributions (those that came to us with explicit consent for publication) are available for consultation on the voices page and in the ‘care’ glossary entry on the voicingcare.net website.
I was the only designer on the project and responsible for all communication, from designing the visual identity and building the website, to developing communication materials and managing the social networks.
